More about the Sea Cucumber
The sea cucumber’s name is quite misleading - it is not actually a cucumber, but an echinoderm. In other words, it’s a marine animal. There are around 1,250 known species of sea cucumber. This sea creature can be consumed as a food, and is a delicacy in parts of Asia. Sea cucumbers contain many beneficial nutrients including vitamin A, riboflavin, niacin and thiamine, as well as a plethora of minerals. Sea cucumbers also contain proteins rich in glycine, glutamic acid and arginine, all of which contribute to cell immunity. These cucumber-shaped echinoderms have been used for centuries in ancient Chinese medicine for it’s antioxidant, anti-inflammatory and immune-supporting properties.
